2012-02-27 RSPB Scotland

In February 2012 we were contacted by the RSPB team in Edinburgh who were looking for help to fold 200 – 250 cranes as table decoration for their first annual RSPB Nature of Scotland awards dinner.

Held at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and hosted by comedian and presenter Fred MacAulay, the awards recognise and celebrate excellence, innovation and outstanding achievement in nature conservation.

After some discussion the folding was split such that the RSPB and their volunteers would aim for 120 cranes, whilst we took on folding 120 flapping birds.

They had ordered some 10 inch square paper which turned out not to be quite square, but hey at least the the flapping bird is one of those almost infinitely forgiving models.

Not much of a challenge you might think but due to timing & illness this was down to one folder with less than a week to fold all 120 models!
